...Forward, men, forward! Let it never be said that Texans lag in a fight!

Non-Commisioned officers of company A,
7th TEXAS INFANTRY, 1861 – 1865

According to regulations, every infantry company should have 5 sergeants and 4 corporals, including one 1st Sergeant, who had the direct supervision of all enlisted men in the company. However, because of the great losses that Company A suffered during the war, the number of non-commissioned officers was reduced as the number of soldiers dwindled. Thus, no new NCO's were appointed after the summer of 1863.

The various sergeants and corporals were ranked as 1st Sergeant, 2nd Sergeant, etc. The number at the left of the table indicates the individual's ranking.

As existing records are very incomplete after May 1864, it is difficult to determine how long some of these men actually served. Cases of doubt are indicated with (?).
